Not so hot today and very windy. A good day for walking. Only a couple of miles from where we are staying so it didn’t take long to get there. It’s a lively place with lots of development going on. Very modern and family oriented. Sealife centre, wildlife centre, museums and lots of bars and eateries. We walked along and around the edge as much as we could, towards the Barangaroo Reserve. Due to the building and restoration works a lot of the footpaths were closed so we were redirected quite a lot. One of the downsides to high rise living are the wind corridors they create. A couple of times we nearly took off!
Eventually we made our way to the reserve, which turned out to be a very newly planted, park-type place. Very nice walkways and cycle tracks, with lovely views and many different levels accessed by steps. Lots of trees and plants too all brought together by the use of the local sandstone. Huge blocks of it that sparkled in the sun.

We continued around the harbour and back passed the infamous harbour bridge, the cut back in to Darling. On passing, as you do, we happened to notice a bar selling home brewed cask ales from their own on sight brewery. Well, it would have been so rude to have passed by without tasting wouldn’t it? We couldn’t decide what to have so we went for this……
They all tasted jolly nice but we both decided that Perfect Storm, with Australian, German and American ingredients took first place by a whisker. And then, on his way to the men’s room, Richard spotted this,
So there you have it chaps, there’s only one way to cure this phobia and that’s to have another!
However, as it was lunchtime and we had decided we would have lunch in Chinatown, it was sadly time to say goodbye to the good beer and carry on our way. We hit Chinatown and made our way down one street, then the next, looking for your better than average Chinese meal. The trouble was we couldn’t understand a thing! I’m not very good with Chinese and although there was an English translation it still wasn’t at all clear what we might be ordering. We were beginning to think that we might make our way back to brewery and sample some of their enormous prawns when we happened upon a place that wad out of the ordinary. Although we still couldn’t understand much we thought we’d go for it. In essence, you had a selection of vegetables, shredded cabbage, pickled things, and things we had no idea about, then they brought marinated meat to your table and cooked it on the bbq that was inserted into your table. Good job it was outside 😀
And, it was Korean not Chinese, but what the heck, it was certainly different. Chillies. Did I mention the chillies? Oh my. They had whole lettuce leaves which you could put various things in then roll up and eat, a but like a spring roll? So on the plate were sliced garlic and sliced green chillies. Well, I thought they looked like your ordinary jalapeños and went the whole hog. My word……I don’t think they were ordinary OR jalapeños. Talk about on fire! I nearly choked. It took a full 15 minutes for my taste buds to regrow! I also made the mistake of drinking some cold beer. I know, I know. That’s the worst thing you can do, but self preservation kicked in and it was an automatic response, lol! When he’ll had finally left my mouth, I was able to continue my meal, which, although was nice, and different, I don’t think I would rush back for more. But we’ll worth the experience. ….except for the chillies!
All packed again now and ready for the off tomorrow to pick up the hire car and drive to the Blue Mountains. Looks like I’ll be doing all the driving this trip as Richard discovered last night that he’d forgotten his driving licence! Good job I have mine else we would have been scuppered! !
