After a short lay in this morning and a leisurely breakfast we made our way down to the local beach. The lifeguards were out and there were quite a few people swimming. We headed up the beach and within a couple of hundred yards there was no one to be seen.
The beach was fairly long and we’d walked most of the beaches on our travels, so we set off at a slow pace enjoying the warm water on our feet. The water here is currently around 22 deg C. We walked, and we walked, the other end of the beach not getting any closer. We looked at each other and both agreed we might as well go for it now as we’d walked so far. Over an hour later we reached the rocky outcrop which formed the end of the beach. We walked around the rocks for a while, but boy was that sand hot! Several dashes to the sea were called for to cool off the burning soles of our feet.
We stayed for a while and then made our way back from whence we came, this time I switched my logging app on so we would know how far we had walked. Apart from the part of the beach where the lifeguards were I don’t think we saw more than 6 people and a dog! The beach was deserted and just sand, sand and more sand……….and a whole lot of water.

We found a coconut! I named him Wilson. I know it’s not exactly a football, but it reminded me of the Tom Hanks film ‘Castaway’.

Richard found a small, dead fish…….poor Eric, he felt very down and didn’t know what life was going to throw at him next, he felt like he’d been washed up on the beach…oh! He WAS! 😯 🙄
I remembered from yesterday that I’d forgotten to show you the view from our table on the boat while we sat and ate lunch, so here it is.
Nothing but coral reef and blue sea!
I also failed to mention that we thought, well, I thought, that I’d been ultra careful in wearing a t-shirt whilst snorkelling the reef. What I failed miserably to remember was to put sunscreen on the backs of my legs! Hey ho, away we go, SUNBURN! Ouch! Hurts when I sit down. Feels like I’ve been dealt six of the best. 😆
Back to the beach walk. So, it seems the beach was 3 and a half miles from end to end, so we had walked well over 7 miles if you count the walk to get some meat for the Barbie.
When we first got on the beach there were a bunch of guys in a boat training for a race. They continuously jumped in the boat in unison, pulled back on the oars and rode the surf, surfed back in again and started the whole process over again. When we got back at the end of our walk, they were still messing about, only further out.
Now that’s what I call dedication, especially in this heat. So hot today that Richard got the tops of his feet burnt. He’s currently sitting with a bottle of cold water on them from the fridge. They do look sore!!
